Monrovia – The University Lecturers for Boakai’s Election (ULBE), a prominent professional group in Liberia, extends its warmest congratulations to His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., on his election as the President and Hon. Jeremiah Kpan Koung as Vice President of the Republic of Liberia. This historic achievement is being hailed as a significant milestone for the nation and its people.
In a press release issued today, ULBE expressed sincere appreciation to H.E. George M. Weah for his gracious concession of defeat. The professional group commended Weah’s act of democratic sportsmanship, highlighting that it not only showcased the strength of Liberia’s democratic values but also enhanced the country’s image on the international stage.
ULBE also conveyed heartfelt thanks to all Liberians, particularly its members, a diverse group comprising medical doctors, PhD holders, lawyers, data scientists, bankers, teachers, and more. The group acknowledged the pivotal role played by these professionals in voting for Amb. Boakai and Hon. Kpan Koung, emphasizing their dedication and commitment to the betterment of Liberia.
As professionals, ULBE identified several challenges faced by the country, pointing to the culture of impunity, lack of meritocracy, systemic corruption, prebendalism, bloated bureaucracy, and the inability to distinguish party politics from governance as contributing factors to the downfall of the previous government. The group expressed high expectations for the new administration and urged President-elect Boakai to prioritize key areas for reform.
Key Priorities for President-elect Boakai and Vice President-elect Koung:
Discouraging Culture of Impunity: ULBE urged the incoming administration to ensure that the violation of laws and the culture of impunity have no place in the “New Liberia.” Upholding the rule of law is seen as a crucial foundation for a just and equitable society.
Promoting Meritocracy: The group emphasized the importance of establishing a fair and transparent system that rewards individuals based on qualifications, skills, and abilities. By promoting meritocracy in the public sector, Liberia can foster an environment of equal opportunities for all citizens.
Zero Tolerance on Corruption: ULBE called for a strong commitment to combating corruption, recommending a comprehensive audit of the previous government and others, including a comparison of assets declarations. The group encouraged the implementation of robust measures and holding individuals accountable for their actions.
Streamlining Bureaucracy: Addressing the issue of bloated bureaucracy, ULBE emphasized the need for a streamlined public sector that eliminates unnecessary red tape and promotes efficiency. The group believes that this will ensure public services are delivered promptly and effectively.
The press release concluded by extending congratulations to those who supported alternative candidates during the elections, urging unity and collaboration for the betterment of Liberia. ULBE expressed its commitment to supporting the government’s efforts in achieving these goals and contributing to the overall development and prosperity of Liberia.
