Liberia: Unity Party Partisans in Lofa County Declare Vote of No Confidence in Campaign Leaders

VOINJAMA, Lofa County – The Unity Party (UP) partisans of Voinjama, Lofa County, have declared a vote of no confidence in their campaign leaders, Mr. John S. Sallay, Campaign Manager for Lofa County, and Mr. David Mawolo, Mobilization Chair for Lofa County. The decision to cast doubt on the leadership of these individuals comes as a result of allegations of misconduct and mismanagement of campaign funds.

The disaffected Unity Party partisans have made a series of accusations against Mr. Sallay and Mr. Mawolo, claiming that their actions have severely undermined the progress made by the party during the first round of the elections. The allegations include:

Misuse of Campaign Funds: Partisans allege that campaign funds have been misused both in the past and in the current election cycle. Specific details of these alleged misuses were not provided but appear to be a significant point of contention.

Secret Decision-Making: It is claimed that the two leaders have been making decisions about the fate of the district without the consent of the majority of the UP partisans. This secretive decision-making process has left many feeling marginalized.

Lack of Cooperation: Mr. Sallay and Mr. Mawolo are accused of refusing to cooperate with decisions reached by the majority of UP partisans. This alleged obstinacy has strained the working relationship between the leaders and the party members.

Unofficial Party Meetings: The partisans argue that the campaign leaders have been using private houses to discuss important party matters and issues outside of the official party structure, leading to a lack of transparency.

Unqualified Appointments: The leaders are also accused of deploying unqualified family members, individuals with tainted characters, and even uneducated individuals as poll watchers and supervisors, despite advice to the contrary. This has raised concerns about the credibility of the election process.

In light of these serious allegations, the Unity Party partisans of Voinjama District have called for prompt and timely action to address these issues and save the party from what they referred to as the hands of “these criminals.” With less than a week remaining before the election, the urgency of the situation cannot be overstated.

The allegations have sparked significant debate within the Unity Party, and party leadership at the county and national levels will likely need to address these concerns in order to maintain party cohesion and campaign effectiveness. The future of the Unity
