Monrovia – The administration of the United Methodist University (UMU) has suspended with immediate effect four of its students for staging a protest against the university based upon a rumor.
It can be recalled that some graduating seniors on Monday, June 25 staged a protest outside the university gates expressing anger over perceived hike in the graduation fees from US$290.00 to US$850.00.
One student was suspended for a period of one year while the remaining three were suspended for a semester each.
Those suspended include, students Isaac Muapoh, Abraham B. Sillah, Siafa Kamara and Amara Kanneh,
Meanwhile, regular academic activities on the various campuses of UMU including the Monrovia
campus are ongoing.
“The administration wants to assure all students, parents, and the academic community that the situation ignited by the so-called “Concern Students of the United Methodist
University of Liberia” is being dealt with appropriately,” the administration said during a press conference.
The administration encouraged all students, especially graduating seniors, the faculty, and administrative staff to go about their normal activities.
The president of the university, Albert B. Coleman expressed dismay over the actions of the students which was triggered by unverified.
