Monrovia- A supporter of the ruling Unity Party, Amara Konneh Jr., has raised questions about past political narratives surrounding Congress for Democratic Change’s (CDC) Secretary General Jefferson Tamba Koijee.

Konneh acknowledged that he was never a supporter of Koijee but expressed a change in perception after seeing recent images of the former official appearing relaxed and engaged abroad.
“I have never been a fan… but I’m proud of him. He’s smiling out there and doing better for himself,” Mr. Konneh stated.
He noted that this observation prompted him to reconsider earlier claims made about Mr. Koijee during the CDC’s time in power.
Konneh recounted that Mr. Koijee had been portrayed negatively in political discourse, including accusations that he was responsible for violence linked to the release of criminals in Monrovia and unfit for leadership.
According to him, such narratives were widely circulated and accepted by many at the time.
The Unity Party supporter now questions whether those portrayals were politically motivated.
He pointed out that despite serious allegations, Koijee has not faced formal charges or prosecution since the CDC left office in 2024. “If he was truly a killer, where are the charges?” Mr. Konneh asked, highlighting the absence of legal action.
Konneh also raised concerns about how Koijee was able to leave Liberia and pursue education abroad, suggesting that the circumstances do not align with the severity of the accusations previously made against him.
He questioned whether Koijee departed through official channels and who may be supporting him overseas.
While maintaining that the CDC-led Government was deeply flawed, Mr. Konneh suggested that political narratives may sometimes be shaped to influence public perception rather than reflect verified facts.
“Sometimes you realize the narratives we inherit aren’t always about justice—they’re about power,” he said.
Konneh’s remarks highlight ongoing debates in Liberia about political accountability, the credibility of past allegations, and the role of narrative in shaping public opinion.
His statement adds to a broader conversation about how political figures are portrayed during and after transitions of power.
