Ganta, Nimba County — Liberia’s Solicitor General, Cllr. Augustine C. Fayiah, has urged prosecutors across the country to perform their duties without fear or outside interference and to prioritize integrity and leadership during a three-day quarterly training workshop in Ganta City, Nimba County.

The workshop, held under the theme: “Strengthening …,” aims to improve application of the law, strengthen institutional and legal support systems, enhance logistics and infrastructure, improve evidence gathering and preservation, promote monitoring and accountability, foster systemic reform and boost inter-agency collaboration.
Addressing the gathering, Cllr. Fayiah told the prosecutors that leadership in prosecution begins with integrity, humility and commitment especially when no one is watching.
He acknowledged the pressures prosecutors face, saying he had been summoned by the Legislature shortly before the conference to brief lawmakers on an earlier case and used the example to stress the need for coordinated law enforcement.
Cllr. Fayiah urged prosecutors to act independently when required, noting that while a legislative summons must be respected, routine prosecutorial work should not be stalled by fear of public or political reaction.
“Leadership starts now,” he said, adding that good leaders step up, organize and work constructively with investigators to strengthen weak cases rather than abandon them.
He warned against allowing institutional tools and facilities to substitute for character, saying the success of Liberia’s justice institutions depends primarily on the professionalism and integrity of those who serve in them.
Cllr. Fayiah called on prosecutors to protect sensitive information, resist inappropriate pressure and pursue justice impartially.
He said every interaction with law enforcement, community leaders and the public is an opportunity to demonstrate professionalism and build trust in the justice system.
On specialized areas of law, the Solicitor General highlighted the complexity of anti–money laundering and counter–terrorist financing investigations and promised a future workshop to deepen prosecutorial expertise in those fields.
He also called for stronger cooperation among agencies, including the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission and the Ministry of Justice to present unified law-enforcement responses.
Invoking international standards on juvenile justice, he reminded prosecutors and lawmakers that individuals under 18 are treated differently under the law and urged regular review of age-related criteria and other legal provisions.
He praised prosecutors who act courageously and compassionately to build institutions, contrasting a prosecutor who waited for instructions with another who proactively developed a plan and presented it to superiors.
“History remembers those who build institutions and serve with courage, not merely those with titles,” he said.
Cllr. Fayiah singled out the importance of prosecuting tax and corruption cases and encouraged the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission and county attorneys to take an active role where required.
He closed by reaffirming his commitment to mentorship and collaboration within the justice sector and called on all prosecutors to recommit to accountability, fairness and the rule of law.
