Liberia: Social Women Group Donates to Baby Mothers

Siatta, a mother of twin girls, said she had L$600 (less than US$5) to pay but couldn’t afford it

Monrovia – Glamorous Girls of Delaware Valley in the United States of America has cash donation to a number of baby mothers, who were at the Redemption Hospital in New Kru Town and the ELWA Hospital in Paynesville City.

Report by Bettie K. Johnson-Mbayo, [email protected]

The donations began at the ELWA Hospital and later at Redemption where baby mothers, aging women, and the Pediatric Department benefited.

According to Rachel Pyne Quiah, an executive of the group of Liberian women, improving mothers’ welfare is their aim because of the role women play in society.

The group is a social group, which was established to reach out to mothers and babies in Africa.

Five of the 22 members are in Liberia for on their vacation.

“We thought it wise to celebrate and give gifts to people at the maternity wards and kids,” Quiah said.

She said the donation is the first in Africa but has been done in the US at several communities.

“We are mothers and understand the struggle of mothers. We are supporting the efforts of women.”

She attributed the cost of the cash donation to US$600.

“We feel hurt visiting maternity wards and see how things are. It gives us a huge responsibility to improve the livelihood of mothers in Liberia.”

She furthered ask other organizations in the US to join the effort to improve the living conditions of mothers.

Meanwhile, Teta Horace, supervisor of OB/GYN and Kaima Jarbar, supervisor of ICU, commended the group for the donation.

Patience Brown and Siatta Flomo, baby mothers at Redemption said the gesture came timely as they had bills to settle.

Siatta, a mother of twin girls, said she had L$600 (less than US$5) to pay but couldn’t afford it.
