
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Liberia has advanced its international aviation cooperation, signing multiple agreements and securing strategic partnerships at the International Civil Aviation Air Service Negotiations Event (ICAN 2024) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Key Agreements and Partnerships
According to a release from Kuala Lumpur, Liberia signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements with multiple countries to enhance the safety, security, and efficiency of its aviation sector:
Malaysia: An MoU to strengthen bilateral ties, focusing on civil aviation safety, security, and training initiatives.
Togo: An agreement to improve aviation safety and operational efficiency.
Saudi Arabia: An air service agreement aimed at facilitating increased flight operations to boost tourism and trade between the two nations.
-Qatar: A renewal and update of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA), with an official signing ceremony scheduled for Doha in early January 2025.
Additionally, Liberia’s Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) engaged in productive discussions with Emirates Airlines to explore future collaborations and finalized a Bilateral Air Services Agreement with Ethiopia, paving the way for Ethiopian Airlines to begin operations in Liberia in late November 2024. Talks were also held with Jamaica to explore potential aviation cooperation.
Leadership Comments
Mr. Julius Dennis, Jr., Director General of the LCAA, highlighted the significance of these partnerships, stating, “These agreements are a testament to Liberia’s commitment to strengthening its international aviation partnerships and promoting economic growth. We look forward to the benefits these collaborations will bring to our nation.”
Madam Hadiyatul Hayati Binti Khalil, Deputy Undersecretary of Aviation at Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport, emphasized that “the collaboration envisioned in this MoU will not only benefit our airlines and airports but also improve the overall experience for travelers and businesses in both nations.”
Lieutenant Colonel Abou Ahabou Idrissou, Director of Civil Aviation of Togo, added, “By working together, we can leverage our respective strengths and resources to create a prosperous and secure aviation environment.”
