Liberia Secures 1-0 Win over The Gambia’s Under-20 Female Team in Int’l Friendly

Banjul, The Gambia – Liberia defeated Gambia 1-0 in a female under-20 international friendly at the Independence Stadium in Banjul on 9 August.

Agatha Nimene scored in the 33rd minute from a Paulinho Agbotsu assist to hand the visitors a good measure of revenge following a temperamental 3-2 defeat to Gambia on 6 August.

Nimene, who scored 39 goals in the Liberia female league, brought her tally in the two friendlies to two, having scored in the first game.

The hosts should have gotten the opener in the 17th minute but Aminata Camara flipped the ball over the bar to the dismay of the supporters.

Gambia again tested Komassah Sumo on three occasions, but the Hippopotamus goalkeeper, who is the surprised package in the team, saved the day.

Coach Robert Lartey made two changes to the team that started the first game with general captain Winnie Dorbor and Love Koffa replacing Elizabeth Tamba and Miatta Morris.

Liberia were reduced to 10 women in the 50th minute after midfielder Sylvia Pyne was booked for the second time by referee Fatou Noum.

Larety’s girls weren’t deterred by the caution as they went on to absorb the pressure from the home team.

Lartey introduced Lucy Kikeh for Love Koffa in the 74th minute and later brought on winger Miatta Morris to improvise for left-back Lucy Massaquoi three minutes later.

Liberia: 16-Komassah Sumo (goalkeeper), 8-Winnie B. Dorbor (captain), 27-Laureitta Sackie, 5-Marie Flomo, 20-Hawa Kpan, Lucy Massaquoi (Miatta Morris 77’), 12-Sylvia Pyne, 4-Francisca Howe, 6-Agatha Nimene, 11-Paulinho Agbotsu, 7-Love Koffa (Lucy Kikeh 74’)

Unused Subs: 1-Lorpu Forkpa, 2-Jennie Tisdell, 10-Elizabeth Tamba, 13-Success Gaye, 14-Bendu Egg Kloty, Tonia Nyumah, Regina Nyanford
