MONROVIA — San Diego-based nonprofit Destiny Hands International (DHI) has teamed up with Santa Barbara-based DragonQ Energy and Liberian nonprofit BENDIS Technologies (BETECH) to launch a pilot project aimed at bringing reliable power, internet connectivity and digital educational resources to underserved communities in Liberia.
The initiative, known as the BENDIS Project™ (“Building Education through New Digital Innovative Solutions”), will deploy DragonQ Energy’s PowerPole system alongside Destiny Hands International’s SendBox digital learning platform at the BETECH Computer Literacy Program in Paynesville, Montserrado.
The pilot combines off-grid solar energy, battery storage, Starlink internet connectivity and a portable digital learning ecosystem designed to support students, teachers and community members in regions where reliable electricity and internet access remain limited.
At the center of the deployment is DragonQ Energy’s PowerPole System, a rugged solar-powered energy platform designed to provide continuous off-grid electricity for computers, lighting, internet equipment, and device charging.
The system will power Destiny Hands International’s SendBox platform, which includes 20 laptops and a digital library server containing offline educational content such as Khan Academy, Kolibri, and Wikipedia, enabling learning with or without internet access.
During the pilot phase, the project is expected to directly support hundreds of students, teachers, and community members by expanding access to computer literacy training, educational resources, and digital skills development in an area where many students have never had reliable access to computers or internet connectivity.
The deployment will also serve as a model for expanding sustainable digital education infrastructure throughout Liberia and other underserved communities.
