Liberia’s New Speaker Appoints House Committees Members

Monrovia – The Speaker of Liberia’s 54th Legislature has named heads and members of the House of Representatives’ standing and statutory committees of various sectors in the country.

According to the Director of Communications of the House of Representatives, Isaac Redd, the decision by Speaker Bhofal Chambers was made in consultation with Deputy Speaker Representative Prince Moye of Bong County.

Representative Munah Pennah heads the committee on executive, while her fellow Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) lawmaker, Hon. Acarous Gray Co-chairs the committee.

Liberty Party Lawmaker, new comer Fonati Koffa will head the Judiciary Committee; former Speaker and third term lawmaker, Edwin Melvin Snowe heads the Committee on Foreign Affairs, while another new comer lawmaker from Grand Bassa County, Vincent Willie will head the Committee on Lands, Mines and Energy.

The influential Rules, Order and Administration Committee is headed by Mariamu Fofana – the first female lawmaker to head that Committee since the era of a new political dispensation after the civil war.

There are concerns over the appointment of the Chair on the Ways, Means and Finance Committee – another very influential committee at the legislature.

Sources have told FrontPageAfrica that the position is being reserved for a CDC lawmaker, but consensus is ongoing amongst the party’s representatives.
