BONG COUNTY, Liberia — Bong County District Seven Representative Foday Fahnbulleh is set to distribute 650 bags of rice to elderly residents across Fuamah and Sanoyea Districts on Saturday, as part of activities marking Liberia’s 179th Independence celebration.

The initiative, according to the lawmaker, is intended to provide support to elderly citizens within the district and recognize their contributions to the development of their communities and the country at large.
District Seven comprises Fuamah and Sanoyea Districts, both of which fall under Representative Fahnbulleh’s legislative jurisdiction.
Representative Fahnbulleh said his decision to identify with the elderly during the Independence celebration is rooted in his longstanding commitment to supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged members of his constituency.
He said elderly people have played a critical role in raising families, preserving communities, and contributing to the country’s development, making it important for them to be remembered and supported during national celebrations.
“I chose to identify with our elderly citizens because they are the people who have sacrificed so much for our families, our communities, and our country. Many of them dedicated the greater part of their lives to raising children and contributing to the progress of our communities. As we celebrate Liberia’s 179th Independence, I believe they deserve to be remembered, appreciated, and supported. This is one small way of saying thank you to them for the sacrifices they have made throughout their lives,” Representative Fahnbulleh said.
The District Seven lawmaker further emphasized that his gesture toward the elderly should not be viewed as something he does only because Liberia is celebrating its Independence.
He said supporting his constituents, particularly those who are elderly and vulnerable, has been part of his approach to public service, stressing that his responsibility to the people extends beyond public holidays, political seasons, or special occasions.
“My commitment to the people of District Seven does not begin and end with a holiday. I have always believed that a representative must remain connected to the people he or she serves, whether there is a national celebration or not. I have consistently tried to identify with my constituents and respond to their needs whenever I can. The elderly are part of our community, and I will continue to stand with them not only during Independence celebrations, but throughout the year,” he stated.

Representative Fahnbulleh said the distribution of 650 bags of rice is also a demonstration of his appreciation for the elderly residents of Fuamah and Sanoyea, noting that food remains one of the immediate needs facing many vulnerable households.
He explained that while the rice distribution may not solve all of the challenges confronting elderly citizens, it represents a practical intervention aimed at providing some relief and ensuring that the beneficiaries feel valued during the national celebration.
“We understand that there are many challenges confronting our elderly citizens, and we know that one distribution cannot address every difficulty they face. But leadership is also about doing what you can with the resources available to you. These 650 bags of rice are meant to bring some relief to our elderly people and to let them know that they are not forgotten. We want them to feel that their representative and their community still care about them,” Rep. Fahnbulleh said.
The lawmaker also called on residents of District Seven to use the Independence celebration as an opportunity to reflect on Liberia’s history and the sacrifices made by previous generations to build and preserve the nation. He said the elderly should remain central to such reflections because many of them are living repositories of Liberia’s history and have witnessed significant changes in the country over the years.
“When we celebrate our Independence, we must remember that the Liberia we have today was shaped by generations that came before us. Our elderly citizens are living witnesses to our country’s history, and many of them have contributed directly or indirectly to the communities we now enjoy. Therefore, celebrating Independence should also mean honoring those who came before us, listening to their experiences, and ensuring that they are treated with dignity and respect,” he added.
Representative Fahnbulleh said he remains committed to working with residents of Fuamah and Sanoyea to advance initiatives that promote the welfare and development of the people of District Seven. He reiterated that his representation is guided by the belief that elected officials must maintain a direct connection with their constituents and make efforts to respond to their concerns, particularly those of vulnerable groups.
