Liberia: Rep. Edwin Snowe Has Doubts About COVID-19 Testing on Deceased Former Lawmaker

Rep. Edwin Melvin Snowe(Ind. District No. 2, Bomi) acknowledges that the decease had some preexisting health conditions of diabetes but says he has reservations.  “I know he had pre-existing health conditions of being a sugar patient. I respect the health Authority; I am not cloth with the authority to challenge them, but I am left with serious doubt to be frank.”

Monrovia – Representative Edwin Melvin Snowe (IND-District #2 Bomi County) says he does not trust or believe medical reports from the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, declaring that former Bomi County Senator Lahai Lansanah’s death was a result of COVID-19.

The lawmaker’s doubt is a result of the way, according to him, the health sector is being politicized.

Rep. Snowe however admitted that the decease had some preexisting health conditions of diabetes.  “I know he had pre-existing health conditions of being a sugar patient. I respect the health Authority; I am not cloth with the authority to challenge them, but I am left with serious doubt to be frank.”

Appearing on the Truth breakfast Show (TBS), the Bomi County lawmaker said, he had personal interactions with the decease hours before he died and had to do his COVID test which came back negative. “I did my test and after several hours my results came back negative.”

“The Vice president’s medical report is on Facebook. The issue of COVID-19, if nothing is done about it, will get really political. You tell me Senator Lahai Lansanah died of COVID; I interacted with him, I demanded a test be done on me you did that but you have refused to do test on his wife and children. I am begging the health authorities to stop politicizing COVID. The dead man COVID test result came in 22 hours but those alive have not being tested for a week now. They are sitting at thinkers’ village waiting to get tested.

“Here is the interesting part. His wife and kids have been waiting for health authorities to go and test them for more than a week, no one has gone there. The health system is becoming too political and if we don’t do something about it, we will go into crisis.”

The lawmaker then raised the issue of Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor.

They are sitting at thinkers’ village waiting to get tested.”

The remains of the late Senator is currently at a local funeral home in Monrovia awaiting funeral arrangements. According to medical reports he died of COVID-19.

Mr. Lansanah was elected to the senate 2005 general elections on the ticket of the National Patriotic Party. The decease senator has been Representative Snowe’s political ally since the lawmaker relocated from Montserrdao County to Bomi County District #2 where he contested and won in 2017.

Lansanah was elected to the Senate in 2005, and one time served as acting pro-tempore of the Liberian Senate in 2009.  Six years later, he ran on the ticket of the then ruling Unity Party.
