MONROVIA – Representative Yekeh Kolubah, one of the key organizers of the pending June 7 mass demonstration escaped serious injury by the skin of his teeth when stones were thrown at him rather hit one of his supporters on Broad Street, Monrovia.
Rep. Kolubah (Mont. District No. 10) had come out of the studios of Sky FM where he was hosted on the famous 50-50 show to talk about the pending protest.
Rep. Kolubah, known for his unbending criticism of President Weah and the regime, made several allegations against the government on the 50-50 Show.
The pro-government supporters who were, perhaps, angered by Rep. Kolubah’s assertions while on air gathered across the street of the radio station awaiting him to get outside.
As the controversial lawmaker walked out of the studio, the pro-government supporters began to rain invectives and threw stones at him and his supporters, an act which would later lead to a standoff between the two groups.
The fracas was calmed by the police response team.
Three persons sustained injuries.
No arrest was made by the police.
Meanwhile, the organizers of the June 7 protest have assured the public that the protest would be peaceful.
The Embassy of the United States in Monrovia has issued an alert, warning its citizens and U.S. government personnel to stay away from protest sites.
The alert warned that the protest which is organized by ‘The Council of Patriots’ will start during the morning hours of June 7 and might continue till the following day.
“U.S. government personnel have been advised to avoid the area, including rescheduling flights in or out of Roberts International Airport on June 7 and 8, as traffic jams may affect travel to and from the airport,” the Embassy warned.
The U.S. government through its Embassy advised it citizens to exercise caution when unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protest.
The protest, according to the Council of Patriots, is intended to demand President George Weah and his government to adhere to the rule of law, abide by the Constitution of Liberia, fight corruption and provide basic social services for citizens.
