Pleebo, Maryland County – The Mayor of Pleebo City Corporation in Maryland County, Hon. Larry Geekor, has commended the administration of President Joseph Boakai for what he described as substantial progress in road infrastructure development across southeastern Liberia, asserting that the government has delivered “90 percent performance” in the infrastructure sector.
Speaking in an interview with FrontPage Africa at his office in Pleebo Wednesday, Mayor Geekor praised the recent arrival of the first batch of earth-moving equipment to the country, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening road connectivity between counties and improving access to remote communities.
“This government has performed 90 percent in infrastructure,” Mayor Geekor declared. “We are aware of the challenges in other sectors, but when it comes to roads construction and maintenance, the commitment is visible and impactful.”
The Mayor noted that for decades, southeastern counties have struggled with poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season, which often left communities isolated and businesses disrupted. He emphasized that the deployment of new heavy-duty equipment would not only facilitate the rehabilitation of major highways but also ensure the regular maintenance and opening of key feeder roads, adding that improved road connectivity is already yielding economic benefits.
“Because of better roads, transportation costs have reduced, and that has affected the prices of goods in the southeast,” he said. “Today, prices are not as high as before because vehicles can move more freely.”
Mayor Geekor stressed that road development remains a foundation for broader economic growth, enabling farmers to transport produce to markets, students to travel safely to schools, and patients to access healthcare facilities without delay.
Beyond roads, the Mayor highlighted ongoing infrastructure initiatives within Pleebo City. He pointed to the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) project currently underway, which he said has reached approximately 40 percent completion. The project includes the construction of a water tower, the building of a local LWSC office, and the drilling of wells to expand access to safe drinking water.
Additionally, he referenced the construction of a modern theater at the Pleebo Health Center, describing it as a major upgrade that will enhance surgical and emergency services in the region.
“Look at the developments taking place, the roads, the water project, the health center theater,” he stated. “These are key interventions that are directly impacting the lives of our people.”
Mayor Geekor concluded by urging residents of Maryland County to support ongoing government initiatives and to remain patient as projects advance toward completion. While acknowledging challenges in other sectors, he maintained that the administration’s infrastructure drive demonstrates a clear commitment to national development, particularly in historically underserved regions.
With new equipment set to be deployed and major projects progressing steadily, local authorities believe southeastern Liberia is on course for improved mobility, enhanced service delivery, and renewed economic opportunity.
