Monrovia – Paynesville City administration has embarked on a program that will see it enhance the qualification of teachers tutoring primary school students in the city and other places.

The city authorities have shifted focus from their traditional role of removing garbage to something that is equally important as having a clean and green city.
As part of her administration’s strategy to support President George Manneh Weah’s ‘pro-poor agenda,’ Paynesville City Corporation (PCC) Mayor E. Pan Belcher-Taylor noted that enlightening the minds of citizens through trainings will put them in a position to face challenges ahead.
In this like, the PCC has initiated a two-week training for teachers mainly within the city. Teachers in selected places, including Margibi, Bong and Nimba Counties, are also going to benefit from the good gesture of the PCC Mayor.
On Monday, Mayor Belcher-Taylor told reporters that 100 teachers have been targeted for the training and were selected from 50 schools.
The teachers are expected to be refreshed in basic educational methodology as well as lesson planning in line with the Liberian curriculum.
According to her, the two-week seminar is geared at further broadening the minds of teachers to better present their lessons in a simpler forms for their students.
She noted that the training will provide the platform for beneficiaries to extend the knowledge they will gain to other teachers in the country.
“We expect teachers who are going to benefit to extend the knowledge to others as a means to help improve the learning environment, which is one of the priorities of this government,” Madam Belcher-Taylor said.
She praised her team at the PCC for coming up with the idea of providing training for Liberian teachers.
Mayor Belcher-Taylor also appreciated the facilitator of the training section, Ms. Elaine Saba, for returning to her homeland, Liberia, to help build the capacity of Liberian teachers.
Ms. Saba said she was pleased to be back home in Liberia and as an educator to facilitate refresher training for teachers.
She stated that it was her own way of contributing to the Liberian educational sector.
“The teachers will be trained in basic knowledge on active lesson planning in line with the Liberian educational sector,” she stated further.
Ms. Saba encouraged the participants to take advantage of the training in making the sector a better one.
Liberia educational system has come under serious condemnation, with bulk of the blames being attributed to unqualified teachers in the classroom.
The poor educational status of the country was clearly demonstrated in the dismal performance of students in the 2018 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
But the PCC boss at the same time maintained that meaningful teachers trainings could help upgrade the country’s educational sector.
