MONROVIA – The nation braced itself on Thursday for a police and pathology update on the murder of a final-year Starz College Student, Charloe Musu, at the residence of former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott in what has been reported as an assassination attempt on the former Chief Justice. Sadly, that did not happen.

Nearly two months after the death of the 30-year-old, no suspect has been named, and it has not been established if there was indeed an assassination attempt on the former Chief Justice. However, the police have been interrogating Cllr. Scott and other members of her residence when the unfortunate incident occurred.
As the public is yet to get a clear picture of what transpired at the residence of the former Chief Justice during the evening hours of February 23, 2023, that led to the demise of Charloe, there have been a lot of speculations in the public. The Ministry of Information announced a press briefing to be addressed by the Liberia National Police and the Pathologist who examined the remains of Charloe, which was expected to address the press and provide an update on the investigation and the findings from the autopsy.
However, the press conference was called off by the Ministry without any specific reason, with the promise to update the press when it is rescheduled. Amid the cancellation of the press conference, the Ministry of Justice also provided clarity that, up to Thursday, the Ministry was yet to receive any report from the police on its investigative findings.
The Minister of Justice, Cllr. Frank Musa Dean, further debunked allegations that he is being reluctant to proffer charges against individuals who were inmates of Cllr. Scott’s residence. The Ministry stated: “Under Section 22.2 (a) and (b) of the Executive Law, the Minister of Justice is required to (a) “Procure the proper evidence for, and conduct, prosecute, or defend all suits and proceedings in the courts in which the Republic of Liberia or any officer thereof, as to such officer, is a party or may be interested” and (b) “Institute all legal proceedings necessary for law enforcement.

“As it stands, up to and including this moment, same being Thursday, April 20, 2023, 9:00 a.m., we are yet to receive a written report from the Liberia National Police. After we shall have received a report and peruse same, the appropriate decision shall be made.”
At the same time, some concerned citizens of Maryland County, under the banner, Maryland Justice Committee (MJC), have expressed fear for the safety of Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott, amid what they term as massive and well-coordinated propaganda against the former Chief Justice.
The group, in a press release issued Thursday, April 20, 2023, said what is even more worrisome is the fact that the propaganda and judgmental statements against Cllr. Scott are coming from politicians and media institutions close to power and authority, thus a genuine reason for concern, considering that Justice Scott has been encountering strange and frightening occurrences, particularly in the last two years, all of which have been duly reported to relevant state authorities.
They recounted a fearful incident last year (2022) when Justice Scott’s license plate was clandestinely removed from her vehicle by unknown individuals while she was in a hearing at the National Elections Commission as a lawyer for the Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence faction of the Liberty Party.
The Maryland citizen group said the sustained public indictment of Justice Scott by politicians and pro-regime media actors points to the fact that there has since been a politically inspired and concluded conspiracy theory out of which all of the media propaganda is being hatched and spewed.
The group maintains that the constant disclosure by pro-regime media institutions of an impending or planned arrest and prosecution of Justice Scott who has repeatedly alarmed about threats to her family with no genuine steps taken by state authorities until the gruesome murder of Charloe Musu, is enough proof that there is a plan by unscrupulous individuals to bring her into custody and harm her.
