Monrovia – The National Investment Commission (NIC) has strongly denied allegations of impropriety involving its Executive Director and other stakeholders in an ongoing waste management procurement process, describing the claims as “false, misleading, and entirely blackmailing.”
The Commission’s response follows a publication by Madam Fanta Kamara, which raised concerns about alleged bribery, travel-related misconduct, and financial irregularities linked to the procurement exercise.
In a statement, the NIC rejected the accusations, asserting that they are intended to damage reputations rather than present verified facts. The Commission cautioned that it reserves the right to pursue legal action against what it termed defamatory and unsupported claims.
“The allegations of bribery, travel-related misconduct, and financial impropriety appear designed to tarnish reputations rather than present credible evidence,” the statement said.
The NIC emphasized that all procurement and concession-related activities are conducted in line with Liberia’s Public Procurement and Concessions framework, which involves established inter-ministerial and statutory processes aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability.
“For the avoidance of doubt, public procurement and concession-related matters are conducted in accordance with established legal and institutional procedures,” the Commission noted.
The Commission further stressed that where credible allegations arise, appropriate oversight institutions—including the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) and the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC)—are available to independently review and investigate such claims based on verifiable evidence.
Reaffirming its stance, the NIC underscored its commitment to transparency, due process, and institutional integrity in all its operations, while calling on the media and the public to exercise responsibility in reporting allegations of serious misconduct.
