Liberia: MYS, UNDP Dedicate Digital Lab for Youths

Monrovia – A research and digital training facility for Liberian Youths has been dedicated by the Youth and Sports Ministry along with partner, UNDP.

The Innovation-Lab was recently setup by the Youth and Sports Ministry with support from UNDP to provide digital training to young people, do research works and connect with other young people in other parts of the country.

The Innovation-Lab is part of the Youth-Connect-Liberia program intended to provide platform for young people to get connected with peers across the world.

Speaking at the dedication Thursday, Youth and Sports Minister Zeogar Wilson said issues of young people are cardinal to the CDC government’s development agenda.

Minister Wilson, however, urged the young people and students to utilize the Innovation-Lab and not allow the center to be dormant.

“This innovative lab should not be here for decoration. This facility should be utilized by you,” said Min. Wilson.

For his part, Cllr. Kanio Gbar-Gbala, UNDP representative at the dedication said UNDP stands in full support of the Youth and Sports Ministry in domesticating the Youth Connect program across the country.

Cllr. Gbala added that UNDP will continue its support to youth development and empowerment in Liberia.

The Youth-Connect-Liberia Program launched in 2016 has been extended to five counties, with plans to replicate the program to the rest of the counties according to the program’s head, Sam Wilson.

The Innovation-Lab, situated at the Samuel Kenyon Doe Sports Complex, is equipped with computers and other office equipment provided by the UNDP.

Young people will use the center to carry out research, online and digital trainings and youth connections.

Youth-Connect-Africa Program initiated in Rwanda in 2012 is currently in fourteen countries in Africa. The program is been supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
