Buchanan – Grand Bassa County, under the leadership of Superintendent Karyou Johnson, is witnessing visible signs of development, highlighted by the near completion of a state-of-the-art senior high school in the port city of Buchanan.
The new public school, located in the “Own Your Own Community” on the outskirts of Buchanan, is designed to serve students in grades 10 through 12 and provide a modern, student-friendly learning environment.
The facility will comprise three annexes housing classrooms for senior students, administrative offices, a cafeteria, library, science laboratory, and modern bathroom facilities.
Residents of the community have praised the county leadership for the initiative, describing the decision to construct the school in what was once a relatively isolated area as forward-looking and inclusive. They say the project will significantly expand educational opportunities for children in the surrounding communities.
County officials disclosed that the construction of the school is being undertaken at a cost exceeding US$300,000.
Superintendent Johnson expressed optimism that the school, along with other ongoing projects, will greatly improve access to quality education and essential community services.
“This project represents a major milestone in our efforts to strengthen education and public infrastructure in Grand Bassa,” Johnson said, noting that it is expected to positively impact the county’s social and economic development.
The school project forms part of a broader county initiative to enhance educational and public infrastructure. In addition, the local administration is carrying out extensive renovations on the county administrative building and the superintendent’s official residence in Buchanan.
The development plan also includes the construction of additional structures and the establishment of a mini-park, aimed at further improving community amenities and the overall outlook of the city.
