Liberia: Man, Who ‘Raped and Killed’ Vivian Wright In New Georgia, Goes On Trial

Monrovia – Saah Joseph, the man who is accused of murdering 15- year Vivian Wright, has pleaded guilty to the indictment for the charge of murder.

Joseph, 21, consented to the crime, and the state asked the court to entered the not guilty plea to enable them to prove all reasonable doubt that he is guilty of the crime.

Prosecution first witness is expected to make its first appearance to testify on Tuesday, June 24, 2019.

He reportedly “Strangulating Vivian while attempting to have sexual intercourse with her”, the indictment states.

Defendant Joseph, a steel bender working in the compound of Alfred Thonkolie, left the premises and went to a local bar where he met the deceased and contacted her to sleep with him for US$20.00.

Thereafter, he and the deceased left the club on a motorbike and went to Mr. Thonkolie’s yard where he had sex with the deceased and while in the process, confusion ensued between both of them and the defendant began to strangler her until she was unconscious while he continually forcibly had to sex her in the vagina and anus.

When he (the defendant) realized that the deceased was unconscious, he took the body and used a plank and threw the deceased out of the fence along with her clothes.

He later absconded the scene and was later arrested by the Liberia National Police in Dolo’s Town, Margibi County.

A murder occurs when the death of another human being under the circumstance manifesting extreme indifference to the value of life.

The act by defendant Joseph is contrary to 4LCLR, Title 26, section 14.1 (a) and 4LCLR, Title 26, section 50.5 and 4LCLR, Title 26, section 2.2 (a) and (b) and the peace and dignity of Liberia.

The state is expected to produce the mother of the deceased Camere Moore, Superintendent of Police Abu Daramy, Captain of Police Jerry Wymah and documentary evidence during the trial.

The Defendant lawyer has said that the trial will not be decided by the jury rather by the judge.
