Liberia: Man, 26, Commits Suicide in NTA Community

Gardnerville – A 26-year-old student was reportedly found dead after committed suicide in the National Transit Authority (NTA) community in Gardnersville.

Chris William, a 12-grade student of Great Commission Academy in the Chicken Soup Factory community, was discovered lifeless in his room with a piece of mosquito net tied around his neck. 

The victim who had just completed the West African Senior School Examination Council Certificate (WASSEC), mother, Reginald Williams told FrontPage Africa after the body was discovered late Monday afternoon that she does not understand why her son to commit suicide. 

Madam William, who was in tears as she explained to a reporter, said the family is in shock.

“It is still hard to believe why my son will do such terrible thing when he is expected to graduate from high school in the coming month,” the grieving mother said. 

Although the reason for the suicide is yet to be established by the Liberia National Police (LNP), eye-witnesses informed FrontPage Africa that the victim had some misunderstandings with his sister (name withheld) about the issue of food. 

“He threatened to kill his sister for giving him a small portion of the family’s Sunday meal which resulting to her informing the LNP,” an eyewitness said.

According to them, Chris was last seen alive Sunday evening upon settling differences with his sister due to the intervention of LNP officers.

The incident occurred as police investigate the death of another 12th-grade student Odell Sherman, who was discovered dead a day after writing the WASSEC test.

Meanwhile, the body of Chris William was on Tuesday evening turned over to the family by officers of LNP because it was said to be decomposing.
