Liberia: LISCR Suffer 2nd Defeat

Monrovia – Sensational LPRC Oilers dented LISCR FC their second defeat of the season on Wednesday, March 6, at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium with a 1-0 victory.

The Oil boys secured the win after Terry Sackor’s lone goal in the 60^th minute.

Both teams played the first half to a goalless draw with both teams having missed opportunities.

Oilers could have taken the lead in the 30^th minute but Sackor was denied by goalkeeper Tommy Songo, who made a splendid save.

Striker Christopher Jackson’s 25-yard shot was blocked by defender Nowo Johnson, who deflected the ball for corner.

Sackor could have increased LPRC’s lead to 2-0 in the 77^th minute, after a tactical ball from teammate Julia Nah but his shot from in the penalty box travelled offside for a goal kick.

LISCR’s midfield had dominance of the ball but their defeat was caused by her forward liners’ failure to put into better use scoring chances they had especially in the second half of the game.

Oilers’ Captain Ebenezer Solo admitted that even though his side won against LISCR, the game was difficult.

He called on his teammates to keep their good ball possession, and improve on their scoring tactics in each of their league games in order to will keep on winning.

Goalkeeper Songo, who served as LISCR’s Captain, described his side’s second defeat in the league as a setback, but called on his teammates not to be discouraged but to try their best and win their next game against Small Town FC, next Sunday.    

LISCR’s defeat at the hands of Oilers is her second out of three games played so far in the league with one win while the Oil Boys’ victory against LISCR is her second out of three matches played with one draw.

 In other games played on Wednesday, defending champions Barrack Young Controller came from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw against Nimba United at the Blue Field in the PHP Community.

Former BYC winger Varney Dukuly put the Mountaineers ahead before Daniel Woto equalized for BYC.

In Grand Bassa County, Watanga FC moved at the top of the table with a 1-0 victory over Keitrace FC, while Monrovia Club Breweries got their first win of the season with a 4-0 victory over Fassell FC.

Small Town FC was 3-1 winners over Nimba FC and Jubilee FC and NPA Anchors settled to a 3-3 draw.

Currently Watanga FC tops the league with nine points from three matches followed by BYC with seven points on goals while Nimba United and LPRC oilers are seven points each but BYC is second on goal difference.
