Monrovia – The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has announced the recruitment of referees to form part of the Liberia Referee Association.
According to a release from the LFA, 50 young males and females are expected to undergo a week-long Referee Course that will kick off from Saturday, December 15 to Thursday, December 20.
It is believed that there is a shortage of referees in the country with many of the senior referees approaching their retirement ages in three years.
The Liberia Football Referee Association is of the conviction that training young referees will help to close the gap.
The release also states that before becoming a referee, interested applicants are to address the application to the Refereeing Department of the Liberia Football on or before December 10, 2018 and that person must be a high school student or above, must be in good health and be of good moral and must be five feet and six inches or above.
LFA Communication Consultant, Horatio B. Willie, said after the training, successful referees will officiate games in the 2019 LFA national league that will kick off early February.
He said the new leadership of the Football House, headed by Mustapha Raji, is committed to human capacity building in a move to improve that game at all levels.
Mr. Willie said the recruitment is for Monsterrado County but said other counties recruitment will be opened in few months.
At least 40 persons from across Montserrado have apply to become referees.
