Liberia: LFA Achieves Milestone with Launch of 2025 CAF Coach Educator Course

Monrovia – The opening ceremony for the 2025 CAF Coach Educator Course was held Wednesday, 5 November, at the headquarters of the Liberia Football Association (LFA).

The event marks a significant step toward expanding the number of coach educators in Liberia and strengthening the country’s coaching development pathway.

The ten-day course will involve 21 coaches, four of whom are female. Also participating in the course are Liberian football legends James Debbah, Thomas Kojo, and Kelvin Sebwe, all of whom went on to become coaches after retiring.

Speaking during the event, LFA President Mustapha I. Raji highlighted the accomplishments of Liberian coaches who have transitioned into coach educators and expressed his excitement about the football association’s initiative to expand the number of coach educators from Liberia.

“Today, I’m happy to see an increase in the number of coach educators in Liberia, and I’m now celebrating that the pathway is now opened for Liberians not only to be coach educators in Liberia but also to go outside of Liberia to facilitate courses. I am very optimistic and convinced that our legends and coaches from Liberia who are taking this course will be able to go outside and share knowledge in the near future,” Raji stated.

Additionally, he praised FIFA for the recently concluded FIFA Coach Educators’ Assessment Program in South Africa, which featured four Liberian coach educators: Robert Lartey, Arab Fofana, Kesselee Kanneh, and Famatta Dean.

Abraham Mebratu, the lead facilitator and CAF Elite Instructor, stressed the value of continuous learning and professional growth and stated that the objective of the course is to develop quality coach educators and structures that will result in the production of quality coaches who can produce quality players.

LFA Technical Director Doco Wesseh urged Liberian coaches to take advantage of the LFA’s capacity-building courses and thanked President Mustapha Raji for his vision and for advancing football both on and off the field.

Under the Football Development Pillar of the LFA, coach education remains one of the crucial components of capacity-building. The LFA continues to invest in the development of local coaches through programs like the CAF Coach Educator Course, ensuring that Liberia establishes a system of technical excellence and knowledge transfer that enhances the game at all levels.
