BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa County – Former Acting Chairman of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), Abdullah L. Kamara, has been acquitted of all corruption-related charges after a unanimous verdict by a 12-member jury sitting at the Second Judicial Circuit Court in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

The verdict brings an end to one of Liberia’s most closely watched corruption cases, which stemmed from allegations surrounding the implementation of the government’s Digital Transformation Program.
Kamara, who also serves as Chief Executive Officer of Tamma Corporation, was cleared of six charges, including abuse of public finances, criminal conspiracy, theft of property, misuse of entrusted public funds, and economic sabotage. Tamma Corporation, which was also named in the indictment, was acquitted on all counts.
Prosecutors from the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) had alleged that Kamara and his company improperly obtained and utilized more than US$52,000 and LRD 2.5 million earmarked for a digital training initiative intended to benefit 10,000 Liberian youths.
According to the prosecution, the funds were acquired under false pretenses during the execution of the project. The allegations prompted President Joseph Boakai to relieve Kamara of his position as Acting Chairman of the LTA while the matter proceeded through the courts.
Throughout the trial, Kamara consistently maintained his innocence, arguing that neither he nor Tamma Corporation engaged in any criminal wrongdoing. His defense team contended that prosecutors failed to provide sufficient evidence to substantiate the allegations.
Following months of legal proceedings, the jury returned a unanimous verdict acquitting Kamara and Tamma Corporation on all six counts.
The acquittal marks a major legal victory for Kamara, who has been battling the charges since they were filed by the LACC. With the verdict, the criminal proceedings against both Kamara and his company have effectively come to an end.
Legal observers say the outcome underscores the importance of evidence-based prosecutions and highlights the burden prosecutors face in proving corruption allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.
Neither the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission nor government prosecutors issued an immediate public response following the verdict.
The case attracted widespread public attention due to its connection to Liberia’s Digital Transformation Program and broader national efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
With Kamara’s acquittal, attention is now expected to turn to the implications of the verdict for future anti-corruption prosecutions and public confidence in Liberia’s justice system.
