Monrovia – Speaking Sunday evening at the Monrovia City hall at a special Eid Mubarak dinner hosted by the Monrovia City Corporation for Muslim in Liberia, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abubakar Sumaru warned Muslim business leaders to avoid division within the religion.
Sheikh Sumaru said the unity that exists among members of the Muslim community should not be tampered with by any individual.
It can be recalled that the Islamic community in Liberia celebrated the Eid Mubarak this year on two separate days; something many speculated was because of disunity that exists among the Islamic leaders.
But Liberia Grand Mufti said it is the business leaders that are using their money to divide the Islamic community.
“We are calling on our business people to be careful and not to use their money to deceive the children to go against the inherited legacy of Islam. That legacy is the unity that had existed between the Muslim. From the day of our forefather we have always celebrated the end of Ramadan on one day and not on two days,” he said.
“So, we are sending out this call to the business community to not use their money to rebel against the unity of this faith.”
Sumaru also used the occasion to inform the MCC about the Islamic community willingness to work with the municipal government to clean the city of Monrovia.
He said mosques across the country will start preaching sermons on the importance of cleanness to help buttress MCC’s effort.
“We will carry on awareness on city ordinances and guild line to our people that dirty water and other garbage’s are not to be seen on the street,” he said.
Speaking also at the dinner, Chief Iman of Liberia Sheikh Ali Krayee lauded President George M. Weah for his good gesture towards the Muslim community during the holy month of Ramadan.
He said the respect and recognition Muslims have being yearning for is coming to fulfillment in the George Weah led-government.
Sheikh Ali Krayee assured the government of Liberia of the full support of the Islamic community, adding that the Muslim community will continue to pray for the President as he controls the affair of the state.
“We saw the billboard, the donations, and the deployment of police forces for our protection during the holy month of Ramadan, so we want to say here today that the entire Muslim community of Liberia is with the President and his leadership.
“We are under obligation to pray for the Republic of Liberia, we did during the holy month of Ramadan and we will continue to do it,” Iman Krayee noted.
