Monrovia – The Internal Audit Agency (IAA) of Liberia has launched the iSoft Public Sector Internal Audit Management System as a means of improving auditing processes.
iSoft is a new digital platform aimed at automating audit processes and strengthening accountability across ministries, agencies, commissions and public corporations.
The launch, held in Monrovia, the Agency says, is a major step in the government’s drive to modernize public financial management under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s ARREST Agenda.
Giving an overview of the software, IAA Director General David Kermah disclosed that iSoft is designed to move the agency away from paper-based and manual audits.
“iSoft is more than just software designed to make the institution’s operations smoother,” Kermah indicated.
According to Director General Kermah, the iSoft system is a digital platform designed to transform audit processes, strengthen risk management, and promote transparency and compliance across the Liberian government.
He explained that the system will allow auditors to plan audits, track findings, monitor management responses, and generate real-time reports from a central dashboard.
Furthermore, he hinted that the system will also create an audit trail for every government institution, making it harder to hide financial irregularities.
“This platform will help us identify risks early, follow up on recommendations, and ensure that corrective actions are actually implemented,” Kermah added.
Presidency Endorses Digital Reform
Launching the system on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Senior Economic Adviser to the President, Sahr Johnny, asserted that the President is closely monitoring the progress the IAA is making to improve public sector accountability.
“The President is aware of the progress the Internal Audit Agency continues to make in improving public sector accountability,” Johnny told the gathering of financial experts and auditors among others.
He noted that in the latest Public Sector Performance Assessment, the IAA ranked third among government institutions, a sign, he indicated of the agency’s growing credibility and efficiency.
“That achievement demonstrates the agency’s commitment to improving its operations and delivering effective internal audit services,” Johnny stated.
“Government cannot deliver development if we cannot account for every dollar.”
Drawing on his own experience as a former auditor, Mr. Johnny expressed confidence that iSoft will make auditors’ work easier and more impactful.
“I have been an auditor myself. I know the challenges of going through piles of documents.”
To him, the newly launched iSoft system will make the work of auditors easier, more efficient, and effective. It will help us follow the money faster and hold people responsible.”
Why It Matters Now
The launch comes as Liberia pushes fiscal decentralization, with more resources and decision-making moving to the 15 counties.
With the high exertion on decentralization, the new audit system is critical to ensure county funds like the County Development Fund and Social Development Fund are properly tracked.
The Internal Audit Agency was established to provide independent assurance on risk management, control, and governance processes within government. With iSoft now live, the agency’s goal is to complete 100% of scheduled audits on time and reduce the backlog of unresolved audit findings by 2026.
