Capitol Hill – The majority bloc of the 55th House of Legislature will conduct new elections for the country’s representatives at the ECOWAS Parliament on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. This election will replace Liberia’s current delegation to the regional body.

The ECOWAS Parliament, a key institution of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), serves as a forum for dialogue and consultation among West African lawmakers to promote regional integration. Established by Articles 6 and 13 of the ECOWAS Treaty, it allows representatives to discuss and agree on matters affecting the region.
The decision to hold a new election follows concerns raised regarding the selection process and adherence to ECOWAS protocols.
During a session on Thursday, February 13, the House addressed the matter, which led to the announcement of a call election to replace the current ECOWAS Parliament members: Montserrado County Representative Hon. Samuel Enders, Bong County Representative Hon. Moima Briggs-Mensah, and Nimba County Representative Hon. Taa Wongbe.
The move to replace the current representatives came after a communication from Hon. James Kolleh (Bong County, District #2) and Hon. Johnson Williams (River Gee County, District #3), calling for the immediate withdrawal of Liberia’s current delegates from the ECOWAS Parliament.
In response to the decision, Nimba County Representative Taa Wongbe, one of the members set to be replaced, rejected the move. On social media, he stated, “They can NEVER take ECOWAS until 2028. They like it, they can fall down and die, but they will not get it!”
