MONROVIA — A sports enthusiast from Grand Gedeh County, Moses Z. Jackson, has urged athletes selected for the county’s football and kickball teams to intensify their individual training routines as preparations gather momentum for the 2026/2027 National County Sports Meet.

Jackson, a former player for Liberia Football Association (LFA) second-division side Exodus FC, emphasized that personal workouts are essential to sharpening an athlete’s physical conditioning and overall skill set on the pitch.
He noted that personal discipline must complement group training if the county hopes to make an impact.
Grand Gedeh’s lone football title in the history of the National County Sports Meet came in 1989, when they defeated Grand Bassa County in the final.
Jackson stressed that it is time to end the decades-long title drought and bring the championship trophy back to the citizens of Grand Gedeh.
“I am calling on our county coaches and technical staff to closely monitor the physical fitness, tactical execution, and finishing touch of the players,” Jackson said. “If at least eight or nine starters meet those physical and tactical standards, the team will consistently deliver results over 90 minutes. The coaching staff must get their house in order now because our county has gone far too long without a championship.”
Beyond physical preparation, Jackson appealed to citizens of Grand Gedeh both at home and in the diaspora to support the county sports department financially and with equipment.
Early and adequate funding, he argued, is vital to transforming their championship aspirations into reality.
He further urged the selected athletes to maintain complete focus and exhibit strong sportsmanship both on and off the field as the tournament approaches in November.
