Monrovia – The former ruling Unity Party has lifted the suspension on five senators including deceased Grand Cape Mount County Senator Edward B. Dagoseh.

The senators, including the deceased, were suspended on April 2, 2019, after they voted for the impeachment of former Associate Justice Kabinah Ja’neh.
The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) at the time expressed disappointment in the senators’ action which subsequently led to the controversial impeachment.
The Unity Party, on Wednesday, June 26, said its decision to reinstate the six lawmakers finalized after weeks of consultations by the party’s NEC with a final decision to restore their membership.
The deceased Grand Cape Mount County Senator and others to including Cllr. Varney H. Sherman also of Grand Cape Mount County, Senators Morris Saytumah of Bomi County; Alphanso Gaye of Grand Gedeh County; Matthew Jaye of River Gee County and Milton Teahjay of Sinoe County were all reinstated.
“The National Executive Committee has voted overwhelmingly in a well-attended meeting held at the National Headquarters in Congo Town, Monrovia to REINSTATE SEVEN (6) of the EIGHT (8) senators it suspended on April 2, 2019,” a statement from the Unity Party, signed by its National Secretary-General for Press Publicity and Outreach Mo Ali stressed.
When the decision was reached to suspend the eight senators, 20 executive committee members voted unanimously in support of the decision.
Mr. Ali says the decision to restore the senators to their full membership is based on the “remorse they have shown” when they were serving their suspension.
But he said Senator Thomas Grupee of Nimba County has since resigned following his suspension while Senator George Tengbeh of Lofa County “has shown no remorse”.
The UP Secretary-General for Press, Publicity, and Outreach accused the Lofa County Senator of “going on a spree of castigating the Party” since his suspension.
At the same time, the party’s executive committee said it looks forward to cooperation from the senators who memberships were restored and all other members of the Party’s Legislative Caucus “at this critical period of Liberia’s deteriorating governance situation”.
UP has also called on the reinstated senators to distinguish themselves as required and as being demanded by the vast majority of Liberians.
The UP communication further reminded members of its Legislative Caucus that they were elected to serve the Liberian people and not the presidency or any single individual.
Meanwhile, the Party has expressed condolence to the family of the fallen Grand Cape Mount County Senator Edward Dagoseh.
“Again, the UP extends its heartfelt condolences to the people of Grand Cape Mount County, the Liberian Senate and the country at large for the passing of Senator Edward B. Dagoseh,” UP mentioned in its statement on Wednesday.
