Monrovia – Former Gbarpolu County Senator Hon. Theodore S.B. Momo has officially taken over the affairs of the National Bureau of Concession (NBC) as acting Director General.
During the official turning over ceremony on August 23, 2024, the former Director General Atty. Edwin Dennis commended former President George M. Weah for entrusting him to lead the NBC for four years and also lauded Mr. Momo for his patience and cooperation during the transition.
In his turn over notes, Atty. Dennis bragged that he’s leaving the NBC in a comfortable posture then he met it four years ago. He commended the World Bank and partners for the level of support given under his stewardship. He used the occasion to disclose several projects sponsored by partners that are now set for the NBC implementation.
For his part, Mr. Momo extended gratitude to Atty. Dennis for his stewardship of the National Bureau of Concessions for the last four years and his tremendous strides and achievements to the extent that the NBC continues to play its statutory role in the governance system of Liberia.
Mr. Momo said his administration will continue to count on him for reference and as a repository of institutional knowledge and memory of the NBC.
He said the Deputy Director Generals of Concessions and Administration have added their fair share to the advancement of the working of the NBC, hoping that they will bring along with them the enriched experiences, skills and vision they have already generated so far to solidify the transition from the Atty. Dennis’ Administration to his administration. “Thank you. I am relying on you as capable partners,” he concluded.
He also praised the President of the Republic of Liberia, Ambassador Joseph Nyuma Boaka for affording him the privilege to share his vision for Liberia, promising to follow the good examples, character and shared values of President Boakai.
He said: In public service, take what belongs to you, or do not take what doesn’t belong to you!” This is a strong principle we will live by as we pledge to provide the sort of administration that will be characterized by accountability and transparency. We will hold our ourselves accountable, as much as we will hold all members of the National Bureau of Concessions accountable and responsible he emphasized.”
Mr. Momo, meanwhile, vowed to endeavor in mobilizing resources for the institution’s effective implementation of its statutory mandate by working with the National Legislature to increase the budget of the NBC.
He promised to make a strong case based on the real mandate of the NBC so that legislators will see the need to support the NBC in becoming more robust in the discharge of its TECHNICAL expertise, promotion of transparency, and accountability in the award and performance of concession agreements.
He, at the same time, assured the President Boakai that the NBC will continue to provide annual update on the compliance of Concessions working in the country and to also strengthen legislative oversight regarding the compliance commitment of the active concessionaires operating in Liberia.
