Liberia Electricity Corporation Hires Eight Graduates as Engineer-in-Training from Tubman University in Maryland County

Monrovia – The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has hired eight graduates from the William V. S. Tubman University in Harper, Maryland County. The graduates were hired under the LEC Internship program, which provides employment opportunities to deserving students and graduates. The newly hired interns will serve as Engineers-In Training for a period of three years before integration into the LEC system.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Liberia Electricity Corporation Mr. John Ashley disclosed that the LEC is an essential part of Liberia’s economic engine and the staff of LEC are the most important part of the corporation. For LEC to be successful in distributing electricity to households and commercial/industrial entities and to keep electricity stable at a reasonable price, he said it will require a trained and competent workforce.

“People may look at Mt. Coffee, the transmission system and substations, and they are all important. But the single most important part of any company and in particular LEC, is its Human Capital, the workforce, and in that respect, hiring new engineers is very important to the future of the corporation as our network expands.” Mr. Ashley said.

He said hiring new engineers is very essential to the forward movement of the corporation. He urged them to learn and absorb all they can and never be afraid to ask questions. It is by asking questions that you will learn, he said.

“As engineers you are going to be very important to the future of the LEC and you are very welcome to LEC”. Mr. Ashley Intoned

”The LEC is promoting a gender and social inclusion project and I am glad to see a female taking part in the internship program. I am however a bit disappointed to see a single female to seven males,” Mr. Ashley said.

He admonished the young graduates of the Tubman University to remain focused in pursuit of their careers and to demonstrate a high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
