The Central Monrovia third division outfit made it to the Second division after their convincing 3-1 win over District 17 Academy in the Semi-final of the national third division play-off at the Gompa Stadium in Nimba County.

Down Town FC started the match on a promising footing with total control of the match and they got an early minute goal from Eddie Nyumah to register their intention.

District 17 Academy fought to get the equalizer but Down FC defense proved too strong in denying them the equalizer.

With a goal down, District 17 Academy mounted pressure on Down Town FC but their strikers weren’t at their best to  put the ball at the back of the net.

Saliaman Sesay of Down Town FC increased his side’s lead which they held onto for the rest of the first half that ended 2-0.

After the interval, District 17 Academy gave a good account of themselves by controlling the game but we’re just unlucky.

Samuel Wilson reduced  the pressure on Down Town FC with the third goal  but District 17 Academy kept their hopes alive and got the consolation goal from  Prince Varney as the game ended 3-1 in favor of Down Town FC.

If the present is for Down Town FC after securing 2nd Division football , the future belongs to District 17 who paraded some of the best stars in the competition.

Downtown FC’s promotion to the second division was the team target but they will now have to see if they can win the championship.

The Central Monrovia side lost the Montserrado County play-off final to Amazing months back and will now be hoping to get their hands on the trophy on Thursday when they face Gompa FC in the grand final.

Gompa FC also got promoted to the LFA Orange Second Division after a 1-1 draw at full time with Amazing FC but secured a 7-6 win over Amazing FC in the post-match penalty shootout.

The Ganta-based will continue their football journey in the upcoming season in the second division.

Gompa FC have now joined Down Town FC who earlier got promoted to the second division.

Both teams will face off in the grand final of the national 3rd division play-off on Thursday.

Amazing and District 17 Academy will battle things out on Thursday for the last slot available to play second division football.

The play-off was delayed for months due a protest case, but at long last, the competition commenced in Ganta City, Nimba County.
