Liberia: County Meet Quarterfinals: Grand Kru, Montserrado Share Points as Grand Bassa Girls Thrash Bong County

MONROVIA — The 2026 Liberia County Meet Quarterfinals continued with thrilling action as Grand Kru County and Montserrado County played out an intense 1–1 draw at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex, while Grand Bassa Kickball Team made a statement with an 8–0 demolition of Bong County in their Group Stage clash.

In the first encounter, Grand Kru struck first in the 31st minute when Varney B. Varney calmly converted a well-crafted chance to give the Kru Boys a deserved lead. Dominant and energetic, Grand Kru kept Montserrado under pressure throughout the first half, controlling large spells of possession.

Montserrado, however, responded after the break. The City Boys gradually grew into the game, increasing their tempo and creating opportunities. Their persistence was rewarded in the 71st minute, when they finally found the equalizer, igniting celebrations and swinging momentum their way.

Despite late attacking efforts from both sides, solid defending and last-ditch interventions ensured the match ended 1–1, a fair result in a contest filled with drama, passion, and the true spirit of county meet football.

Meanwhile, in the second game, Margibi County and Grand Bassa played to a goalless draw, leaving the Gibi boys with four points and Bassa with a point in the Quarterfinal Zone A.

This sets up a decisive showdown between Grand Kru and Margibi on the last day of the quarterfinals, where a draw will be enough for both teams to advance, while a win for Montserrado or Bassa would prove insufficient.

Grand Bassa Bounce Back in Style

In late Group Stage kickball clash, Grand Bassa bounced back emphatically after an opening defeat to Grand Kru, thrashing Bong County 8–0  home run at the Samuel K Doe sports complex.

The victory sent a strong message that Bassa remain serious contenders for a semifinal berth.

Earlier in the group, Nimba County secured a 4–1 victory over Grand Kru, setting the stage for a thrilling final round of fixtures.

The spotlight now shifts to the decisive clash between Nimba and Grand Bassa, which will determine who advances to the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Bong County will host Grand Kru, knowing only a win can keep their semifinal hopes alive.

With the quarterfinal group stage wide open, all teams remain in the hunt, promising an exciting climax to this year’s County Meet.
