Liberia: Coach Lartey’s Set Champion League Target

Monrovia – Barrack Young Controllers’ coach, Robert Lartey, has declared that his aim is to reach the group stage of this year’s Confederation of Africa Football Champions League.

Lartey, who took over the reins from former coach Cooper Sannah following poor run of results in the middle of last season, has brought glory back to the Go Blue boys in his second spell winning the league and the FA Cup.

Coach Lartey, who splashed the cash on his squad this season, believes that they can beat the record set by LPRC Oilers and that his ambition to reach the group stage of the competition will be realized.

“There are still rooms for improvement. We have go to back to see what we can do to prepare our team better for the CAF Champions League competition. I can assure that our objective is to reach the group stage,” Lartey said.

“Since sensational Oilers reached the quarter final of the continental competition, no Liberian club has reached that far and nothing is impossible with God. We are going to do it collectively,” he added.

Coach Lartey said though winning the double is a boost for his team, they need to prepare well for any opponents they know nothing about and that he is determined to push his players to achieve qualification.

“We still have room for improvement despite the team winning the double. Twenty-four players will be invited to train for the competition and selection will be based on merit.

“We are not buying any player for the competition because the registration process has closed, so the players must prove to the technical staff that they want to be in the team and I know the players are well prepared and willing to go the extra miles,” he said.
