Paynesville – The 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet kickball category reached a fever pitch on Wednesday as Grand Cape Mount and Margibi Counties punched their tickets to the grand finale following two of the most nail-biting encounters in recent tournament history.

Sunday’s final now promises a collision of resilience and tactical discipline, after Cape Mount staged a historic comeback and Margibi survived a defensive war of attrition.
Cape Mount’s “Cassava Leaf Girls” Stun Nimba
The afternoon’s last fixture was nothing short of cinematic. Nimba County, entering the match as heavy favorites,appeared to have one foot in the final after a dominant early display.
The “United Girls” of Nimba raced to a commanding 3–0 home run lead, punishing Cape Mount with a series of powerful home runs that silenced the Cape Mount supporters’ section.
However, the “Cassava Leaf Girls” of Grand Cape Mount refused to be intimidated.
In a gritty fifth-inning resurgence,Cape Mount capitalized on fielding errors and found their rhythm at the plate to draw level at 3–3.
The deadlock persisted through the regulation seven innings, forcing the match into the high-pressure territory of extra innings.
With the score still tied, the match was decided by the tournament’s “penalty” shootout format.
Cape Mount displayed nerves of steel, securing two home runs while Nimba’s offense sputtered at the most critical moment.
The 5–3 victory sparked wild celebrations, marking one of the greatest escape acts in the competition’s history.
Margibi Edges Grand Kru in Defensive Masterclass
The first semifinal was a stark contrast in style but equal in intensity.
Margibi County and Grand Kru County locked horns in a tactical stalemate that saw both defenses dominate.
For six grueling innings, neither side could find a breach, as outfielders tracked down every fly ball and pitchers maintained pinpoint accuracy.
The breakthrough finally came in the twilight of the seventh inning.
With the “Gibi Girls” under immense pressure to avoid extra innings, a lapse in the Grand Kru defense allowed Margibi to sneak in the decisive home run.
The 1–0 shoreline stood until the final out, confirming Margibi’s place in the final.
It was a heartbreaking end for Grand Kru, who had been standout performers throughout the group stages, but Margibi’s patience and late-game execution ultimately proved the difference.
