Monrovia – Reports reaching FrontPageAfrica say the technical staff and playing body of Bong County are planning to boycott their remaining games in the National County Sports Meet this weekend.

The decision of the team is as a result of the county leadership’s failure to settle the per deim of players and coaches since the kickoff of the national event in December of 2018.
According to sources close to the football team, they have been told by the county officials to wait for weeks and nothing has been done.
Our source disclosed that since the team arrived in Monrovia on Thursday, January 3, for the quarterfinal, they have only been feed once.
“We have resolved to boycott the county meet because of the ill-treatment we are getting from the county,” a team member, who asked not to be named because of reprisals, told our Sports Desk.
“Imagine we play the preliminary without per diem. They keep telling us to be patience; we have families who depend on us. During the Christmas, they promised to settle us but did not live up to their promise.
“How can you treat us like this because we love our county? This is what we live on,” our source said.
Our source states that because they have been pushed around by the county authorities, if they do not take action now they will not get their just benefits.
Bong County is expected to be in action in both kickball and football on Sunday, January 6, at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in the quarterfinal of this year’s competition.
The boys and girls from central Liberia are scheduled to face Grand Gedeh in both kickball and football but if their concerns are not addressed before Saturday 12 noon, they will not honor this and remaining matches.
Speaking on state radio – ELBC – Friday, January 4, Deputy Minister for Sports at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. G. Andy Quamie, admitted that counties officials were not trustworthy when it comes to the proper Management of team monies.
He did not name a particular county but said they have received complains from four counties on payment of per diem, something he said needs to be discouraged.
According to Quaimie, they are planning to monitor the allotments given the counties in the next county meet to stop the complains. Meanwhile, all efforts to contact officials of Bong County did not materialize up to press time.
