The incident took place several days ago.

According to local sources, robbers seized gold valued at about US$75,000 and took a large sum of cash.

A FrontPage Africa reporter,  who visited the camp, found only six private security officers on site; there were no visible armed police officers at the facility.

The six security guards were reportedly beaten and tied with ropes by the assailants.

Tappita police, who responded to the scene, confirmed that the guards were flogged and said the robbers used several cutlasses and several single‑barrel firearms during the attack.

County police have recovered ten single‑barrel guns and several cutlasses believed to have been used in the robbery.

It remains unclear whether the national government or Nimba County authorities were aware of the Chinese mining operation at Needonnwine.

County police have not publicly explained why there was no official security presence at the camp.

Investigation into the robbery is ongoing. Police have not released information about suspects or arrests.
