Monrovia – FrontPageAfrica has gathered that for over three months staff and partners at the Ministry of Gender Children Social Protection cannot work due to a power outage.

The power outage is a result of the damaged transformer supplying the Ministry from the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) power grid. The LEC, is yet to replace or repair the transformer.
Sources within the Ministry informed this paper that sometimes employees rally to buy fuel for the ministry’s generator so as to enable them to perform duties.
According to reports, Minister Williametta Saydee Tarr purchases fuel for the generator at her will. “If you see the ministry light on now, know that she wants to do some important work in the ministry, so she will ask the maintenance guys to put the generator on.”
“We only come to the office and just sign because the Human Resource department is more concerned about that; but what we do for the day is not their concern,” a source said.
FPA contacted Minister Tarr as to ascertain information regarding the outage on December 5, 2018, via WhatsApp, but she failed to respond. A follow-up message was sent again on December 8, but was also not responded to up to press time.
Also, on December 8, 2018, she was also contacted reminding her of a response to the inquiry but again the check shows she read the chat.
Prior to contacting Madam Tarr, Webster Cassell of the Communication Department was contacted but he revealed that he was not the official spokesperson for the ministry.
