Monrovia – Randy Nuch Brickson, a passionate advocate for youth empowerment, has called for greater youth involvement in local governance, urging the establishment of a Local Government Youth Council and Advisory Board in all counties.

His statement comes amid growing concerns over the lack of a youthful representation in political structures, particularly after the recent controversial appointment of over 125 local government officials in River Gee County, where not a single youth was included.
“The future of our nation lies in the hands of our youth,” Brickson said during a press conference. “It is imperative that young people are given a voice in decisions that affect their communities. Without youth inclusion, we risk alienating an entire generation that possesses the energy, vision, and innovation needed to drive meaningful change.”
He went on to highlight the importance of establishing a Local Government Youth Council and Advisory Board to ensure that young people are part of the decision-making process at the local level. Such councils, he said, would provide a platform for youth to express their views, offer ideas, and help shape policies that impact their lives.
But, he expressed a deep disappointment and concern over the president’s appointments in River Gee County.
“It is deeply troubling that the government would make such a glaring omission in a county with so much potential for youth leadership,” he said. “The decision to appoint over 125 local government officials without including any young people is not only short-sighted but also a disservice to the future of the region.”
He further emphasized that the majority of the county’s youth are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and creativity necessary to address the challenges besetting local government. “Denying youth participation in governance not only stifles their potential but also limits the effectiveness of the government itself. The lack of youth representation sends the wrong message to young people about their role in shaping the future of their country.”
In closing, he reiterated his call for the president to reconsider the appointments in River Gee County, urging that youth representatives must be included in the decision-making process.
“Our youth deserve to be heard, and they deserve to be at the table. It is time for local governments to reflect the diversity of their communities, and that means including the voices of the young people who will inherit the legacies that are being created today.”
