‘I’m Impress with Sime Darby Plantation Liberia’s Operations’- Gef CEO

Monrovia – The Chief Executive Officer and Chairperson of the Global Environmental Facility, (Gef) Noako Ishii told Sime Darby Plantation Liberia that she was impressed about their operations in the country.

“I am deeply impressed about the company trying to do the right things within a relatively short period amidst the many constraints faced by the company,” Madam Ishii said.

Her statement was made last week following her visit at the plantation.

Other officials from Conservation International and UNDP  form part of the delegation.

“Because we have heard a lot about the workings of the company, we thought it wise to come and see what the company is actually doing here in the country, because you know they always say that seeing is believing, so we thought to come and get first-hand information,” Madam Ishii said

According to her, the visit was a learning trip so as to give them a first hand  information about the operations of the company.

Sime Darby Plantation Liberia  signed sixty three years (63yrs) concession agreement  in 2009 with the Government of Liberia to do develop over two hundred twenty thousands (220,000) hectors of land within four counties in Liberia, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, Gbarpolu and Bong counties.

The company  employs over four thousand workforce and provides  schools, healthcare and other social benefits to the communities. Buses transport students to school and an employee has  seven dependents on healthcare and provides rice as well.

Toushi Itoka, the Head of Corporate Communication for Sime Darby Liberia,   expressed thanks to the delegation for the visit.
