The appointment was announced in a letter dated July 7 following Grand Kru County’s selection as one of the host counties for the qualifying round of the 2026 National County Sports Meet after a draw conducted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports on June 24. Grand Kru has been placed in Group D alongside Margibi and Bomi Counties.
According to the Superintendent, the County Administration, in collaboration with the Grand Kru County Legislative Caucus, selected Saygbe to spearhead preparations for the tournament.
Under the terms of reference outlined in the appointment letter, Mr. Saygbe will work closely with the Office of the County Development Officer to supervise all activities and committees relating to the county’s participation in the competition.
He will also coordinate reports for onward submission to the County Administration.
The Superintendent said the appointment was based on the county’s assessment of Saygbe’s passion, commitment, and support for sports development, expressing confidence in his ability to lead Grand Kru’s preparations.
Speaking to journalists in Harper, Maryland County, on Monday, Supt. Nimely said the decision to appoint Mr. Saygbe was made in good faith and in the best interest of positioning Grand Kru for a successful campaign.
“Grand Kru County will win this year’s County Meet, and so we are preparing ahead of time,” Supt. Nimely declared.
She emphasized that early planning and effective coordination are key to ensuring the county performs well in the upcoming tournament.
The National County Sports Meet is Liberia’s premier inter-county football and kickball competition, bringing together counties from across the country to compete for national honors. Grand Kru County is expected to begin preparations immediately under the leadership of the newly appointed Steering Committee Chairman.
