Grand Bassa County – Senior staffs of Grand Bassa Community College have commended President George Manneh Weah for reappointing Dr. Nathaniel Gbessagee as President of the college.
Dr. Gbessagee was reappointed by President Weah on March 12 with his appointment taking immediate effect.
Many employees of the college see his reappointment as a boost, as workers claim that he would ‘keep the college on its right path’.
On March 17, employees Amos Gibson, Registrar; Alexander Gandyu, Comptroller; Washington Garwehdeh, head of vehicles and many others said President Weah made the right decision to reconsider Dr. Gbassege, who was suspended as president of GBCC last year.
“Dr. Gbessagee was suspended by the Board of trustees but he and his comptroller met the Board Chairman, Dr. Joseph Isaac and they discussed the major issues raised by the Board and established a pathway to resolving all issues for the College to move forward,” explains Rev. Amos Gibson, spokesperson for the workers.
“The workers of this institution couldn’t question the Board of the College on the suspension of the college president but we know that Dr. Gbessagee has lots of good plans for the College.”
Gibson and other workers argue that Dr. Gbessagee’s suspension was carried out “without proper investigative findings to establish wrongdoings and relevant resolution by the board”.
They claim the board chair requested for the approval of Dr. Gbessagee’s suspension and the decision was made prior to the expiration of the board tenure, which was slated for November 18, 2017.
The workers’ spokesperson declared that they are prepared to continue working with Dr. Gbessagee in helping to improve the community college.
“Dr. Gbessagee wrote UNMIL on July 28, 2017 and requested UNMIL to support GBCC with buses and vehicles and UNMIL has agreed the vehicles should be pickup by the College President,” he said.
