Monrovia – The Ministry of Labor has announced that it will conduct a one-month joint nationwide inspection at workplaces across the country beginning Friday, May 17, 2019.
The inspection team for the nationwide inspection comprises of staffs of the Ministry of Labor, Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) and the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP).
In February of this year, the Ministry of Labor issued a joint statement informing the public about a joint nationwide inspection in March.
But the Minister of Labor Moses Y. Kollie said the ministry has put into place some modalities to begin the second joint nationwide inspection.
The reason for the joint inspection, according to Minister Kollie is to avoid multiple inspections.
“So, we have decided to conduct this nationwide inspection. We did it last year and it was very much successful and rewarding,” Minister Kollie said, adding that the inspection needs to be done quarterly to implement the decent work Act of 2015 to the fullest.
Work permits, letters of request for work-permit, internal policy, attendance record, and contract certificates are among the many documents the inspectors will verify during the exercise.
“People think that the joint inspection is just based on revenue collection, but it will determine to ensure that every employers or employee are in confirmative with the Decent work Act of 2015,” Minister Kollie said.
Region one will comprise of Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, Gbapolu County, while region two are Bong, Lofa and Nimba Counties.
Region three includes Margibi, Grand Bassa and Rivercess Counties and region four is River Gee, Grand Geded, Maryland and Sineo Counties.
Meanwhile, Montserrado County will be divided into four zones.
Also speaking, the Deputy Commissioner General for Technical Affairs at the LRA Decontee King-Sackie said the commission is required by law to account for every amount that will be collected during the inspection.
“Each and every location the team will be going, the LRA will be there to verify and validate the payment in the proper channel,” Sackie said.
