Ganta-to-Yekepa Road Works Come to Standstill, As Transport Ministry Impounds Several Vehicles Including Road Contractors’

Road contractors, CSE, vehicles and other vehicles were impounded by the Ministry of Transport for lack of required documentation to ply the roads

Ganta, Nimba County – Road construction works on the Ganta-to-Yekepa road work came to a standstill on Friday, May 10, following the Ministry of Transport, Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) and the Liberia National Police detachment in Ganta impounding several vehicles that are said to be in violation and have not met the requirements before plying the road.

Those three government entities have embarked on phase two of the rigorous annual motor vehicles, motorcycles and tricycles, yellow machine, heavy-duty trucks inspection of current vehicle documents. They are also scrutinizing licenses that are being carried by the operators of any of those vehicles for compliance enforcement.

The process is taking place in five counties, including Bong, Grand Bassa, Margibi, Grand Gedeh and Nimba.

According to our Nimba County Contributor, the inspectors have impounded several vehicles, including the Senegalese road construction company, CSE, which is building the Ganta-to-Yekepa road. Our contributor says because of this exercise, which is now in its fourth day, all works on the road construction have come to standstill.

Their cars are not the only ones impounded so far. Commercial vehicles, including motorcycles and cars with Guinea-marked plates, are also parked for failing to meet the requirements before plying the roads.

One LRA official, who asked anonymity, told this newspaper that CSE’s vehicles were impounded because of the company’s failure to register their vehicles and obtain valid drivers’ licenses for their operators.

Our Nimba County Contributor said, the CSE’s cars parked are marked A-61214, A-61418, A-61412, A-60612 and A-65349, which is said to belong to the company’s boss.

The company’s five cars have been parked since Friday and because of this, no work has been done on the road construction.

CSE entered into an agreement with the Government of Liberia months ago to pave the Ganta-to-Yekepa.
