MONROVIA – In a special PTA meeting called at J.J. Roberts United Methodist School (JJRUMS), parents and faculty have addressed the recent unprovoked attacks on the school by students from Tubman High School. The meeting was presided over by PTA President Pindarous Allison.
During the meeting, Mr. Samuel K. Sagbeh, the Principal of JJRUMS said the attacks on the school by Tubman High Students occurred on Friday, April 5, 2024, and Monday, April 8, 2024.
Sagbeh disclosed that after a thorough investigation initiated by District #8 Representative Prince Toles in conjunction with relevant education authorities and stakeholders, Tubman High School had formally apologized to JJRUMS.
Among the attendees, numbering approximately 48 parents, a series of unanimous decisions were made to safeguard the welfare and integrity of JJRUMS:
The JJRUMS Administration pledged to resume classes on Monday, April 15, 2024, with the Liberia National Police providing security for the school, students, and staff for a minimum of one month.
Collaboration between the PTA, JJRUMS Administration, and the Department of Education of the United Methodist School System was mandated to craft a robust position statement to warn Tubman High against future aggression.
A Special Press Conference was endorsed to dispel misinformation surrounding the incidents and clarify JJRUMS’s innocence.
Legal action against the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) was approved, seeking a restraint order against all MCSS schools toward JJRUMS and financial restitution for damages caused by Tubman High.
Participation in Tubman High activities was prohibited, emphasizing a clear stance against any future affiliations.
Parents were urged to ensure their children’s safety by promptly entering and exiting the school premises and refraining from loitering on the streets while in JJRUMS uniforms.
Efforts to fortify the school’s perimeter fence were prioritized to enhance security measures.
A firm stance was adopted, rejecting mere apologies from Tubman High and demanding legal accountability for their actions.
These decisions reflect the collective determination to uphold JJRUMS’s reputation, protect its community, and ensure justice prevails in the aftermath of the regrettable events. The resolve demonstrated by parents, faculty, and administration underscores their commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.
In light of these developments, parents were duly informed of the suspension of classes on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, pending official communication regarding the resumption of activities.
