Dr. Herman Browne Not Dismissed, Cuttington Board Clarifies

Monrovia – Cuttington University has clarified that the embattled president of the university, Dr. Herman B. Browne, has not been dismissed.

In a release, Cuttington stated that due protest by students at the Suacoco campus in Gbarnga, Bong County during the week of May 15, the Bishop of the Episcopal Church Liberia was constrained to appoint an Officer-in-Charge, Father James M. Tamba, after a meeting held in the absence of Dr. Browne on the campus where formal letters of complaint were received.

The Bishop heads the university’s Board of Trustees.

“The Board of Trustees wishes to clarify that the president of the university, Dr. Herman B. Browne, has not been dismissed, replaced, fired, removed, suspended or otherwise relieved of his duties,” the statement noted.

According to the Board of Trustees, a special committee has been set up and directed to proceed to the Suacoco campus to meet with the complaining parties and investigate their claims and report to the Board of Trustees.

This, according to the Board, would enable them to resolve the matter in timely and comprehensive manner and restore normalcy to the campus.
