Downtown FC Star Jesse Francis Dies Following Fatal Road Accident

MONROVIA – The Liberian football community has been plunged into mourning following the sudden and tragic death of Downtown FC player Jesse Francis.

Francis, a versatile talent who previously featured for Gardnerville FC, LISCR FC, FC Fassell and Jubilee FC passed away early Sunday, leaving teammates and fans in a state of profound shock.

Downtown FC confirmed the devastating news in an official statement released on March 29:

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved player, Jesse Francis a true warrior on the field and a brother to us all.”

Fatal Collision

According to hospital sources and eyewitness reports, Francis succumbed to his injuries at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center after being involved in a severe road accident.

Reports indicate the young footballer was struck by a commercial motorcycle after a recent competitive match.

Despite emergency medical interventions, he ultimately failed to recover.

A Distinguished Domestic Career

Before joining Downtown FC, Francis established himself as a disciplined and resilient player within the Liberia Football Association (LFA) leagues.

His career saw him rise through the ranks at Gardnerville FC before earning stints at powerhouse clubs LISCR FC,FC Fassell Jubilee FC.

At Downtown FC, he was regarded as a pillar of the squad, recognized not only for his technical ability but for his role in maintaining locker-room unity.

In a poignant twist of fate, Francis’ final professional appearance took place on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in a fixture against his former club, FC Fassell a game. Downtown FC won 1-0z

Borough FC Joins Tributes

The news has sparked a wave of sympathy from rival clubs across the league.

In a statement released Sunday, Borough FC extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the Downtown FC organization.

“We are deeply saddened by this heartbreaking loss. Jesse Francis was not only a talented footballer but a passionate competitor whose presence on the pitch reflected true dedication,” the Borough FC statement read.

“In moments like these, football stands still, and we are reminded that we are one family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his teammates and his family who bear this immense loss.”

A Somber Atmosphere

The atmosphere at Downtown FC’s training grounds remains somber as players and coaching staff struggle to process the void left by his departure.

The club added: “He was more than just a key player he was a source of inspiration, unity, and strength. As we mourn this painful loss, we also celebrate his life and the incredible spirit he brought to our team.”

Funeral arrangements and a formal memorial service are expected to be announced by the family and club management in the coming days.
