Margibi County – As the government of Liberia struggles to set the country’s educational sector on par with other nations’ educational sectors, some group of Liberians outside their country and at home have stepped in to help improve the sector.

Those Liberians, who run a charity — Shepherd International — based in the United States and Liberia have broken grounds for the construction of a multipurpose educational complex value at US$3 million in Ben Town, Marshall, Margibi County.
According to the engineer, Hun-pu Tulay, they are set to build the complex on 5.4 acres of land, which was purchased at US$16,000.
The complex, when completed, will include a clinic, multipurpose academic building, standard laboratory, technical educational building, dormitories, residential buildings for teachers, football field and basketball court.
Making remarks at the groundbreaking program over the weekend, Tulay said the construction works will last for five years.
He noted that the elementary section, clinic and the multipurpose hall will be completed as the first phase of the project.
The group’s objective for the construction of the complex is aimed at providing Liberian children the opportunity to acquire quality education.
According to him, parents would be made to pay minimum, affordable fees for their kids.
Speaking earlier, Madam Jacqueline Russell, one of the group’s visionaries, was really happy to see the project take off through the groundbreaking.
She disclosed that when the Ben Town project is completed, her organization will embark on additional projects in other parts of the country. According to her, the organization members around the world will be happy to see this project jump start.
Providing the objective of Shepherd International, Madam Russell stated that the organization being Christian-oriented, believes in the value of every member.
According to her, the organization is also aimed at connecting people to God and empowering them for the work of service so that the body of Christ may be built.
Also during the groundbreaking, Ben Town’s residents thanked the organization for taking such a developmental project to their community.
Pa Ben, in whose honor the town is named, praised the group and promised their cooperation toward the construction project.
He told FrontPageAfrica how happy he is for the group coming to construct the educational complex in their community. “It will help our children since some of us never went to school,” he noted.
Young people in the town also expressed their gladness about the project.
