Monrovia – A stalwart of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change, Sheik Al Moustapha Kouyateh says it is impossible for young people in the country to be useful when they are not skillful.

Kouyateh made the remarks when he donated 60 bags of cement, 500 bricks, one wheelbarrow, five jackets, five helmets and L$173,000 Liberia to the party (CDC) as his contribution to undertake series of projects at the party’s Headquarters in Congo Town.
CDC’s chairman Mulbah K. Morlu announced recently that the ruling party is about to undertake several projects at their Headquarter.
The project includes the construction of a paved road in the compound, the construction of a parking lot and a vocational school.
Speaking at the event, Kouyateh who was accompanied by two Italians, said his donation is to help fulfill the party’s proposed plan, something he said is in line with President Weah’s Pro-poor agenda.
“My donation here today is not politically driven, it is something that I am so passionate about. It is my passion to see useful youths. I believe that if we continue to do more of this, young people in this country will be capacitated,” Kouyateh said.
According to the CDC stalwart, the high illiteracy rate among young people is causing serious trouble for the forward march of the country.
“Even if President Weah provides one million jobs today you will not have 10,000 Liberians who are prepared to take those jobs because they do not have skills,” he said.
Kouyateh also called on other officials of the party to “put hands around the party” in implementing the proposed plan.
In response, Chairman Morlu said with the enormous developments taking place around the country, the vocational school will help young Liberians to be absorbed in the workforce. “Our vision is to move the country from illiteracy to literacy. So, whether you from Unity Party, Liberty Party or whatever party once you have desired to be imparted by these opportunities you can be a part because we want to build this country and building this country requires that we move away from politics,” Morlu declares.
